Photon Technology International Inc. (PTI) Announces First Commercial Sale Of LS-1 To Eastman Kodak Corporation

Photon Technology International, Inc today announced that Eastman Kodak Corporation has purchased a fully-optioned LS-1 Luminescence Lifetime Analyzer. This represents the first industrial sale of the LS-1.
The LS-1 identifies and quantifies trace amounts of substances by the light they emit when “excited” by the system’s highly specialized light source. Commercial markets for the LS-1 include medicine, pharmaceutical testing, chemical processing and environmental control among others.
According to Charles Marianik, President and Chief Executive Officer, the LS-1 provides a significant advancement over existing luminescence analyzers. He said it performs up to 60 times faster; is substantially smaller and lighter; is priced approximately 40% lower; and is operable by non-technical personnel.
PTI received its first order for a basic system from the University of Akron in August, after researchers viewed a prototype model. Similarly, Kodak’s decision to move forward with an LS-1 comes before PTI has begun to market the system confirming Marianik’s belief that it is time to bring luminescence technology into the commercial marketplace.
