Photon Technology International Inc. (PTI) Receives Prestigious R&D 100 Award For LS-100 Fluorescence Lifetime System

The R&D 100 was awarded to Photon Technology International Inc. (PTI) for the LS-100 fluorescence lifetime system; selected by Research and Development magazine as one of the 100 most significant new technology products of the year. Mr. Marianik accepting the award on behalf of the Company stated ”finally after fourteen years, when we invented the first modern day lifetime system we have received recognition for our efforts”.
Mr. Kovach and Mr. Marianik entered the fluorescence lifetime market in 1975 with the first, time correlated single photon counting system (TCSPC). While PTI still makes TCSPC systems, introduced in 1987, this award recognizes the LS-100 system, which uses a totally new and patented (patent pending) technique known as the Strobe Technique for the measurement of fluorescence life times.
The advantages of the strobe technique over the current Phase and TCSPC techniques currently in use for the measurement of fluorescence lifetimes are that the Strobe Technique used in the LS-100 is faster then Phase, as accurate as TCSPC and much simpler and less expensive then both of the older techniques.
